PRS Custom 24 Vintage Sunburst 1991 Electric Guitar

This is a PRS Custom 24 Electric Guitar in Vintage Sunburst finish. After being unveiled by Paul Reed Smith at the NAMM show in 1985, the Custom 24 established a ‘third way’ between Fender and Gibson in the guitar landscape. Made in the USA in 1991, this guitar consists of a Mahogany body with a Figured Maple top, a Mahogany neck, and a 24-fret Rosewood fingerboard. Other appointments include a PRS Tremolo system, PRS Locking tuners, and Gold hardware. The pickups installed in this model are a PRS HFS Treble Humbucker in the bridge, and a PRS Vintage Bass Humbucker in the neck position. These are wired to a master volume, master tone, and a 5-way rotary switch.

The Mahogany neck plays superbly well, with the ‘Wide Thin’ profile offering a smooth, responsive and articulate paying experience in all registers. Certainly, the profile is well suited to lead players as it is slim enough for fast melodic lines and solos. The gloss finish to the rear of the neck assists with navigation of the 25” scale, and the double cutaway body design with signature PRS sculpted lower horn enhances access to the upper frets. The Rosewood of the fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, its 10” radius feeling practical for a wide range of playing styles and techniques whilst the attractive and unique Abalone ‘Bird’ inlays add a touch of luxury to the playing experience.

The pair of PRS humbucking pickups installed in this guitar deliver thick and full-bodied tones, with plenty of switching options to ensure versatility. The Vintage Bass in the neck position is warm and round, and delivers plenty of power to push those lead lines and solos to the front of the mix. The HFS Treble bridge pickup is brighter, and can handle serious amounts of gain for a saturated rhythm guitar sound on your riffs and power chords. In positions 2 & 4 the pickups effectively split, providing an out-of-phase single coil sound which works well for crystal clear shimmering clean sounds. The control layout remains simple but offers plenty of scope for shaping your tone.
